What better time could you find to take yourself and your camera (and family...) away for a few days to improve your photography skills, take some great shots and of course enjoy the company of your family & friends... Take inspiration from some of the suggestions and information offered below and start expanding your photography skill-base and image portfolio.

Photo Holidays

If you want to explore your creative side then you'll almost certainly enjoy a photographic holiday. This type of holiday is becoming increasingly popular and can be for a weekend or a longer break. If you're passionate about photography, a photo holiday may well be the ideal opportunity to further improve your knowledge & skills as well as being a great deal of fun.

A general photography holiday will help you practice your photography skills as well as offering you a well earned break. Here, you will be photographing more or less anything you wish. You might choose buildings, flowers, sunsets or landscapes. The choice is yours but you'll benefit from the presence of an experienced teacher at all times. You can ask any questions you like and will be offered guidance in the use of your own camera as well as perhaps other types of camera in which you may be interested. Ultimately, you will learn in stimulating environments with support from from experienced tutors.

There are also photographic holidays based around certain themes. For example, photography holidays can be city based, there being something of a knack to photographing cities. Photography opens your eyes to everything from architecture, street markets, local costumes, bustling street activity through to perhaps simply the colours and styles of vehicles. A city photography holiday will show you how to make the most of all of this superb material.

Your interest might be in fashion, in which case a dedicated fashion holiday is likely to appeal. You are certain to master new camera techniques as well as gaining inspiration for your own future work.

For anyone with aspirations to become a wildlife photographer, wildlife photography holidays are available both in the UK and overseas. Whether you are expert or amateur you'll benefit from professional advice in this challenging subject area.

The UK boasts a wide range of locations with excellent photographic potential. In fact, knowing where to start can be the hard part. The UK has thousands of fantastic old buildings, each one with something unique to offer the keen photographer.

Chichester Cathedral is set in the centre of the city which is famous for its modern art by Piper, Sutherland and Chagall. Exeter Cathedral has been standing proudly on Cathedral Green since the eleventh century and its tall spires have been popular with photographers since the invention of the camera.

Roche Rocks in Cornwall have long attracted the attention of photographers and geologists with fascinating coloured mineral stones together with a ruined chapel at the top.

Standing in over 600 acres of parkland in the West Midlands lies Kingsbury Water Park. Here 15 lakes are home to different species of beautiful waterbirds. The water in the lakes takes on a different hue depending on the time of day.

The countryside of Northumberland is sparsely populated and absolutely stunning. Rolling hills, small cottages and valleys are dotted everywhere and the light here makes many a shot truly special. The ever changing skies over Northumberland are a photographer`s dream.

The Somerset levels are another special location with ever changing scenery. Wildlife photographers can find peace and quiet among the fields and ditches in order to photograph birds of prey and the starlings that come here to roost.

When it comes to architecture, Leycock in Gloucestershire is hard to beat. Here tiny cottages dating back to medieval times line the cobbled streets. The village has long been the subject for many calendars.

Bourton on the Water with its Cotswold stone buildings and quirky shops is featured on endless postcards and this is, again, a great place to shoot.

Burton Dassett in Warwickshire is a high point amongst otherwise flat countryside. Spectacular photographs of the Cotswolds and distant cities can be taken from its peak.

Venture abroad and the list is endless. Photograph glaciers, volcanoes, river valleys, forest glades, mountains, lakes.. whatever your choice of subject you will easily find it. If natural history appeals, then visit Madasgar with wildlife that is found nowhere else on earth.

Croatia`s Plitvice Lakes National Park has stunning waterfalls and terraced vegetation. Amongst the undergrowth, luminous blue pools contain an abundance of fish. Similarly the northern Italian Lakes are often the subject of stunning photos.

America has the Grand Canyon, Australia has Ayers Rock, New Zealand has Milford Sound and a host of other spectacular sights. Africa`s various countries each have their own different colours and sights. The sand dunes of Namibia are like no dunes anywhere else on earth. The colours of the flowers in South Africa have to be seen to be believed. The world really is full of stunning locations.

You are certain to return from your holiday feeling that not only have you learned a great deal about the places you have seen but that you are now better equipped to capture these and other subjects. Whether you intend photography to be a hobby or a business, this type of holiday is of considerable benefit. All you need is passion for your subject and a camera and the professionals will help you to do the rest.

For photography holidays involving trekking in the great outdoors, what tent
you choose, together with appropriate equipment will determine your level of comfort, with a decent night`s sleep being a prerequisite to the concentration needed to take full advantage of the subject and the professional support at hand.

Good luck with whatever you choose, and above all, have fun !
